SUMMARY:Visualising the Environment Photography Workshop
DESCRIPTION:[cmsms_row][cmsms_column data_width=”1/1″][cmsms_text] \nA Reflective Lens on Environmental Photography\nPhotographic images shape perceptions and the ways in which we understand the environment. \nThis highly interactive workshop explores a wide range of environmental themes through an illustrated seminar\, active discussion\, image critique\, demonstration of techniques and a practical field trip. It goes beyond the literal representations of ‘nature photography’ to address the thought processes behind creating compelling and meaningful images and visual stories. \nThe workshop assists participants to improve the impact and interpretative power their images. In particular\, it explores the visual tensions between aesthetics\, ecology and conservation.\nThe role of images is rapidly changing in the age of digitization\, social media and mass dissemination. What makes some images convincing and others banal? \nHow can we more effectively develop visual concepts to express ideas that do not necessarily translate to words?\nAnd how can we visualise environmental issues such as climate change that are often abstract and insidious? \nThese questions and more will be actively explored in the context of participants own interests in environmental photography and the environment more generally.\nThe workshop is suitable for people with all levels of environmental knowledge and photographic skill (although participants would be expected to know how to operate their cameras). \nParticipant Requirements for workshop:\nParticipants will require their own cameras. For the critique session\, submit two images in advance of the workshop (on booking\, further details will be forwarded).\nParticipants are asked to wear appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear for the field trip. If the temperature reaches 37\, we will have to remain indoors. \nMaximum Participants: 18 participants \nCost: $40 Landcare Members (please indicate your Landcare Group on booking)\, $60 Non-Members \nLunch: Lunch and morning and afternoon tea will be provided. Water will be provided at Cussen Park. \nSite Visit\nThe workshop will involve a field trip at Cussen Park\, Tatura. \n[/cmsms_text][/cmsms_column][/cmsms_row][cmsms_row data_padding_bottom=”50″ data_padding_top=”0″ data_overlay_opacity=”50″ data_color_overlay=”#000000″ data_bg_parallax_ratio=”0.5″ data_bg_size=”cover” data_bg_attachment=”scroll” data_bg_repeat=”no-repeat” data_bg_position=”top center” data_bg_color=”#ffffff” data_color=”default” data_padding_right=”3″ data_padding_left=”3″ data_width=”boxed”][cmsms_column data_width=”1/2″][cmsms_image align=”center” animation_delay=”0″]3163|https://gmln.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/frog-580×460.jpg|project-thumb[/cmsms_image][/cmsms_column][cmsms_column data_width=”1/2″][cmsms_image align=”center” animation_delay=”0″]3154|https://gmln.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/alison-580×460.jpg|project-thumb[/cmsms_image][/cmsms_column][/cmsms_row][cmsms_row data_width=”boxed” data_padding_left=”3″ data_padding_right=”3″ data_color=”default” data_bg_color=”#ffffff” data_bg_position=”top center” data_bg_repeat=”no-repeat” data_bg_attachment=”scroll” data_bg_size=”cover” data_bg_parallax_ratio=”0.5″ data_color_overlay=”#000000″ data_overlay_opacity=”50″ data_padding_top=”0″ data_padding_bottom=”50″][cmsms_column data_width=”1/1″][cmsms_text animation_delay=”0″] \nAbout the Presenter:\nAlison Pouliot\, BSc Hons (zoology)\, BA (philosophy)\, PhD (ecology). SUMMARY:Fungi Seminar
DESCRIPTION:[cmsms_row][cmsms_column data_width=”1/1″][cmsms_text] \nUnderground Lovers – Exploring the clandestine relationships between plants and fungi\nWhat exactly are all those fungi doing out there in the landscape? \nAlthough little known\, every eucalypt and most other trees form beneficial relationships with fungi. Fungi also make farm and forest soils more resistant to drought and disease. While Landcare has traditionally focussed on vegetation\, fungi are increasingly being incorporated into biodiversity and conservation initiatives. \nEcologist E.O Wilson famously reminded us that it is the little guys that run the world. Fungi\, along with invertebrates drive most of the ecological processes in our local landscapes. They build architecture in soils; influence hydrology; sequester carbon; recycle organic matter; provide habitats and govern energy flows. \nLooking after soil fungi is vital to the health and resilience of our agroecosystems and forest ecosystems. Understanding the role of fungi in soils and ways to support and maximise their function benefits not just the soils\, but all the associated organisms including humans.\nDuring this seminar we will explore the amazing diversity and significance of fungi and why they are important in our lives. \n[/cmsms_text][/cmsms_column][/cmsms_row][cmsms_row data_padding_bottom=”50″ data_padding_top=”0″ data_overlay_opacity=”50″ data_color_overlay=”#000000″ data_bg_parallax_ratio=”0.5″ data_bg_size=”cover” data_bg_attachment=”scroll” data_bg_repeat=”no-repeat” data_bg_position=”top center” data_bg_color=”#ffffff” data_color=”default” data_padding_right=”3″ data_padding_left=”3″ data_width=”boxed”][cmsms_column data_width=”1/2″][cmsms_image align=”center” animation_delay=”0″]3158|https://gmln.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/fungi2-580×460.jpg|project-thumb[/cmsms_image][/cmsms_column][cmsms_column data_width=”1/2″][cmsms_image align=”center” animation_delay=”0″]3154|https://gmln.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/alison-580×460.jpg|project-thumb[/cmsms_image][/cmsms_column][/cmsms_row][cmsms_row data_padding_bottom=”50″ data_padding_top=”0″ data_overlay_opacity=”50″ data_color_overlay=”#000000″ data_bg_parallax_ratio=”0.5″ data_bg_size=”cover” data_bg_attachment=”scroll” data_bg_repeat=”no-repeat” data_bg_position=”top center” data_bg_color=”#ffffff” data_color=”default” data_padding_right=”3″ data_padding_left=”3″ data_width=”boxed”][cmsms_column data_width=”1/1″][cmsms_text animation_delay=”0″] \nAbout the Presenter:\nAlison Pouliot\, BSc Hons (zoology)\, BA (philosophy)\, PhD (ecology).
